Course

Psalms for Ordinary Days

The Psalms were the prayer book of Jesus and of the early church. They give words to every human feeling: anger, grief, fear, gratitude and joy.

In these three sessions Pastor Julian walks through one kind of psalm at a time, with a short practice to try at home each week. Watch on your own or with a small group; each session ends with questions for conversation.

Lessons

  1. Songs of lament Nearly a third of the Psalms are laments. We look at Psalm 13 and what it means that scripture gives us permission to complain to God.
  2. Songs of trust Psalm 23 and Psalm 121: prayers for the middle of the journey, when the destination is not yet in sight.
  3. Songs of praise The Psalms end in a crescendo of praise. We read Psalm 150 and practise gratitude as a habit rather than a feeling.
