About us
You are loved, accepted, and invited
Hearthstone is a community church on Lantern Hill, and has been since 1962. Whoever you are, whatever you believe or doubt, whoever you love and whatever you are carrying, there is a seat at this table for you.
Who we are
More than sixty years in Alder Bay
Hearthstone began in 1962 as a dozen families meeting in a schoolhouse by the lake. Today we are a few hundred people of every age who worship, eat, learn and serve together, and who still believe the most important thing a church can do is make room for one more.
-
Worship
Every Sunday at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., traditional and contemporary.
-
Wednesday Nights
Dinner together, then classes and groups for every age.
-
Preschool
Little Lanterns, our preschool for ages two to five.
-
Music and arts
Choirs, a community band and concerts through the year, for every age and every level.
-
Care and support groups
Grief support, mental health resources and small groups for whatever you are carrying.
-
Volunteer
Ways to serve, in the church and across Alder Bay.
Beyond our walls
Hearthstone folks run the Alder Bay Community Pantry with three other churches, tutor at Lakeside Elementary every week, and build a house with local partners every summer. See how we serve.
Discipleship
Learn, live, love, lead
At Hearthstone we believe discipleship and leadership are one and the same.
-
Learn God’s story
Hearthstone folks engage personally with scripture, reading it for themselves.
-
Live in commUnity
Hearthstone folks bring their experiences, opinions and perspectives into conversation with one another.
-
Love God in worship
Hearthstone folks worship weekly, focused on praise, prayer and presence for God.
-
Lead lives of purpose
Hearthstone folks lead their lives with purpose, informed by what they learn, live and love.
Where we stand
Belonging
Two short commitments, adopted by our church council, say how we welcome people.
“We believe every person is created in God’s image and we affirm the infinite sacred worth of ALL God’s children.”
Our commitment to belonging
“We will keep learning to see one another clearly, to repair harm where we have caused it, and to make room at the table for every neighbor.”
Our promise to our neighbors
Our purpose
We gather around the table so we can be sent into the world
Sunday sends us out into Monday: into our homes, our work and our town.
Grow in grace
A lifelong journey of learning, praying and following Jesus, together.
Love our neighbors
Joining God’s work in our town and beyond, where justice, mercy and hope take root.
Our mission is simple: to welcome everyone, to grow together in the way of Jesus, and to love our neighbors in Alder Bay and beyond.
At our center is the love of Jesus Christ

-
Acceptance
We recognize that Christ’s love has no boundaries, and all God’s children are welcome and belong.
-
Hospitality
We welcome all to share Christ’s love through help, hope and healing, and live into the Old Testament definition of God’s loving faithfulness known as chesed.
-
Community
We claim a sacred place where Christ’s love unites all to support and care for others, while nurturing a personal relationship with God.
-
Discipleship
We are called to be living representatives of Jesus Christ, and to bring others to know God’s mercy, justice, grace, love and peace.
-
Service
We respond to Christ’s love and God’s calling by sharing our time, talents, tithes, spiritual gifts and resources.
